TOPIC: CURSES FOR DISOBEDIENCE.

TEXT: DEUTERONOMY 28:15-35.

KEY VERSE: "However, if you do not obey the LORD your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you." (Vs. 15) 

SUMMARY

God earnestly desired to bless his people and promised blessings beyond their imagination when they carefully followed all his commands, but if they did not, God gave a second detailed list of all the curses that would fall on the people. We are often tempted to think that sinful behaviours do not have serious consequences, but in fact they bring deadly curses on life for the wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23). The curses include all kinds of unfruitfulness, failure, poverty, disease and defect. Every aspect of life that is blessed through keeping God's commands can also become curses through breaking them.

APPLICATION

I am reminded from this passage that just as full and careful obedience to God's commands bring all round blessings, disobedience brings God's curses on his people, hence it is left for me as God's child to choose which side of God I want to see and experience in my life and my generation to come. 

PRAYER: Lord, help me never forget the deadly consequences of sin. Thank you for Jesus who frees us from the curses of sin.
