JUDGES AND KINGS

TOPIC: JUDGES AND KINGS.

TEXT: DEUTERONOMY 16:18-17:20.
KEY VERSE: "When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priest. (DEUT.17:18)
SUMMARY
The Lord taught his people to follow him and not worship other gods by following justice. The Lord is just, he showed this by being with them, bearing their sin and providing atonement for them. The Lord's justice is unique, it makes his people holy
and righteous. Judges appointed were to honour God's covenant purging evil from Israel and acting according to God's Holy commands. Likewise, their kings must be a man of the word of God, writing, reading and obeying it. He should not become proud by considering himself better than his fellow Israelites and to seek wealth, but only seek the Lord through his word.
APPLICATION
Judges and Kings after God's own heart are those who will seek Him alone and nothing else. They are always faithful to his covenant. As a judge and king in God's kingdom after the order of my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, my topmost priority is to be a man of his word, not only reading it, but also writing it, meditating on it and obeying it, thereby honoring my God all the days of my life.
PRAYER: Lord, thank you for revealing yourself through your word. Raise leaders among us who will honour and obey your word in Jesus' Name, Amen.

ONE WORD: A PEOPLE OF GOD'S WORD.
